James D. Collinson

Management consultant specializing in economic and social research, strategic and business planning; change management; organizational effectiveness; policy development; and project management in small, medium and large private and public organizations.

BSA, Agricultural Economics, University of Manitoba,
MSC, Resource Economics, School of Natural Resources, University of Michigan
Language: English and French

Jim brings over 30 years of senior executive experience to his consulting practice, helping clients achieve their goals. Analysis of the reasons for past and current situations, including relevant external factors, provides a basis for projecting future trends, essential for designing effective organizations with clear direction needed to meet the challenges of change. Having developed his research skills at the University of Michigan, he has applied them with success in the fields of agriculture, regional development, northern infrastructure, industrial development and management.

Complementing this research capacity, Jim has been CEO of large organizations, several with staff numbering between 2500 and 7500. Knowing and understanding the difficulties facing CEO's in this changing world, he uses this experience and understanding to provide advice and results of direct use and benefit to clients. Understanding the difficulties inherent in keeping open and effective communications in organizations, he listens to concerns, provides analysis and develops solutions to effectively address issues.

Negotiation is often necessary to achieve organizational goals, and Jim has advised private and public sector clients on a wide range of sensitive negotiations. Examples include the development of many federal-provincial agreements and their subsequent implementation, negotiation for new national parks and historic sites and aboriginal input to the Constitution Act, 1982.

Jim has lead many special federal, provincial and multilateral task forces to investigate and report on sensitive issues of social and economic significance. He chaired the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for two terms, during the sensitive consideration of certain proposed sites, including Auschwitz, Australia's Queensland Rain Forest and the Panda Reserves in China.

For the last 10 years Jim has been responsible for consulting assignments which have directly assisted CEO's of various sized organizations to achieve previously elusive goals. He has advised local governments, and local self help groups, developed web sites for heritage organizations and trail groups and planned and delivered training courses to young entrepreneurs.
